The Big Cover UpMixed Media on Canvas 30" x 40" FCA First Place in Concept Show 2020 SOLD Recent months, or what I think of as “Covid Times“ have challenged all of us in many ways. I found myself struggling with being able to paint and it is my understanding that this is not unique to me. It is not the first time that I have been “stuck” but never for so long, especially when I have had more opportunity than usual in which to paint. How many times as an artist have you heard or talked about “letting go of the outcome”, allowing yourself to play” or “painting for yourself”? Worthwhile concepts but so hard to really internalize and put into action. For me getting there, has actually has taken practice and a lot of “self talk”. Recently however I feeI that I have had a bit of a break through. I have done several paintings in which I was able to let go and paint in a way that just felt right. I have found I have been happy with some of the outcomes but also not frustrated about paintings that did not quite turn out. I am however still working on not letting others opinions, what ever they are, affect me too much. |
