I did 3 single 12 x 12 paintings last year called querky cats and I had planned to do more -- but then I had a thought it might be more fun and practical to do them all on one canvas. It was a lot of work to complete and it is certainly very bright and I hope people enjoy it.

This is all about common cat idioms used in everyday English to represent ideas -- here they are pictured in a very concrete manner using actual images of cats to convey the idea. Have fun trying to name each of the 9 squares. (see below for answers)

From the left to the right and the top to the bottom -- the idioms are:

Fat Cat, Cat Burglar, Copy Cat

The Cats PJ's, Cat Nap, Alley Cat

Nervous as a Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Cats out of the Bag, Throw the Cat among the Pigeons

Hi all --- I am happy to tell you that I have been accepted to show in the Federation of Canadian Artists Summer Gallery this year. My paintings will be part of a group of 20+ artists showing in a rotating display. The show is on from July 1 to August 17, 2014 -- for a whole 7 weeks! So if you are planning on going to Granville Island this summer please drop into the Gallery and see the show.

Its a Numbers Game

I am thinking I might do a series of these abstracts using Numbers - it was fun to do

I came came across several photo's of people I took when I was in New York City a year ago. I loved the big shapes in this one so thought I would use some of my new papers and give it a try.

This one was fun. It started out with the big rock like shapes, papers made from printing on my gelli plate -- which stimulated me to add the Scissors.

These 2 recent paintings are about abstraction and shapes

Check out my latest paintings. I have another one almost completed which I will post later.

Boats on the Irrawaddy River in Bagan Burma

The flowing 2 were inspired by the paper that I made that you see on the vase with the tulips and the foreground of the one with the autumn leafs.

The Burger 16" x 16"

This painting started as a demonstration for my collage workshop -- to show the participants how I started doing a torn paper collage using magazines and other papers. I ended up putting the final touches on it at home. I think others found this a fun piece -- there were suggestions for naming it but at the end of the day I think The Burger says it best.

Three Bottles

Acrylic Collage 30" x 30"

I have used a lot of my made papers and some commercial paper in this painting staying primarily with a neutral color scheme. This is one of those paintings that just flowed - once I started i kept on going till it was almost completed. I let it sit for a day or so and then made some corrections to a troublesome area in one of the corners. At this point I think it is done and there is something about it that I find appealing -- and I hope others do as well.

This painting was done including photo's that I took on our trip to SE Asia. I also included some of my thoughts and the colors i remember - gold and browns for the dusty landscapes, red/burgandy of the monks robes and blue for the rivers and the sky.
