I just did 3 paintings of abstracted querky cats based on some common sayings that have the word cat in them, such as " The Cats Out of the Bag". I created a new gallery and plan to do more paintings using this theme because they were really fun to do. Hope you enjoy.

I just finished the following torn paper collages and added them to my critters gallery.

The following Paintings are in the show.

The SDAG Oil and Water Show starts this Thursday evening with a reception. The show is now juried by artists from the Federation of Canadian Artists. The show is open so submissions are accepted from Canadian and International artists for consideration - so it should be a very interesting show. I am very pleased that I had 4 paintings accepted -- yahoo!

For those that live in this area the weather should continue to be lovely -- so if you have the time and inclination please come to the reception or visit the show while it is hanging. You can find more info at the following link:

I have continued working with magazine and newspaper as well as some lovely commercial paper I found. In addition I have made more papers using tissue paper as the base which I often stamp or stencil. I like to use the tissue because of the ability to keep it transparent. All 3 types of papers have been used in the following painting.

As with the other paintings of people I have done using this technigue - some parts came easily - other parts of the painting were really challenging to do. My next step I think is to abstract people and animals like I do with still life paintings which might be fun.

I am in the zone of working with a more neutral palette right now - this is the third painting I have done recently using this neutral color scheme.

Check out the Still Life and Flowers gallery for a couple of new paintings. The Grape Escape is made from torn magazine, newspaper and commercial paper collage and Branching Out has commercial and stencilled paper in it.

While I have been doing collage for some time this painting is a new approach. It is primarily torn paper from magazines and newspaper plus some commercial papers I had on hand. I have used this technique a few times before but never on a human face - but admire the work of several artists who do - especially Derek Gores - so thought I would give it a try. It was a lot harder than I thought but glad I persisted. Hope you enjoy.

Back from NYC and Washington DC -- saw lots and lots of fabulous art and took many photo's for inspiration. During the trip I read "The Painted Girls" by Cathy Marie Buchanan and in the notes at the end it said that the original wax and cloth sculpture of the ballerina age 14 by Degas was in the National Gallery in Washington DC. What a treat as we had planned to go to that Gallery the very next morning! I have included a couple of photo's of this sculpture below - it was so beautiful.

I have also added a few photo's of NYC below

CFAI Magazine

I was also pleased to find that some of my mixed media work was select to be included in the June 2013 CFAI Visual Language Magazine. It is on page 134. Go to the links page if you want to see it and click on Current Visual Language Magazine.
