I just did a workshop with Mike Svob and as usual I created a bunch of terrible paintings during the week. He however is a good teacher and I have been practicing some of the technigues he demonstrated, including glazing. I also pushed myself to do a landscape as they are not in my comfort zone. The two paintings below are ones I have created in the last week. (PS - he is known for his values and saturated color)

I just did 3 paintings of abstracted querky cats based on some common sayings that have the word cat in them, such as " The Cats Out of the Bag". I created a new gallery and plan to do more paintings using this theme because they were really fun to do. Hope you enjoy.

I just finished the following torn paper collages and added them to my critters gallery.

The following Paintings are in the show.

The SDAG Oil and Water Show starts this Thursday evening with a reception. The show is now juried by artists from the Federation of Canadian Artists. The show is open so submissions are accepted from Canadian and International artists for consideration - so it should be a very interesting show. I am very pleased that I had 4 paintings accepted -- yahoo!

For those that live in this area the weather should continue to be lovely -- so if you have the time and inclination please come to the reception or visit the show while it is hanging. You can find more info at the following link:

I have continued working with magazine and newspaper as well as some lovely commercial paper I found. In addition I have made more papers using tissue paper as the base which I often stamp or stencil. I like to use the tissue because of the ability to keep it transparent. All 3 types of papers have been used in the following painting.

As with the other paintings of people I have done using this technigue - some parts came easily - other parts of the painting were really challenging to do. My next step I think is to abstract people and animals like I do with still life paintings which might be fun.

I am in the zone of working with a more neutral palette right now - this is the third painting I have done recently using this neutral color scheme.
